Some thoughts on the game…
This was the most frustrating game of the season. Florida wasn’t playing Alabama or LSU. This was Auburn, the next-to-worst defense in the SEC.
Sure, Florida was still missing John Brantley. That’s no excuse.
This whole game was a mess, from the coaches down.
I am sick — absolutely sick — of the Florida coaches lying during the week about injuries. It’s complete horse shit, and it’s disrespectful to the media and fans to have to listen to the coaches cover up things that don’t need to be kept secret.
Ronald Powell, who the coaches said was fine all week, didn’t practice all week and missed the game against Auburn.
What’s the point in lying about that?!
The coaches also said Mike Gillislee was going to get more touches. Gillislee was the only bright spot in the Gators’ running game against LSU. A direct quote from Will Muschamp: “We need to get him more touches.”
How many carries did Gillislee have?
Three.
THREE.
It’s not like Chris Rainey was effective running the ball or anything. He had 33 yards on 16 carries!
Speaking of Rainey, what the hell was he doing returning punts after the second muffed catch?! The coaches finally got a clue and replaced Rainey. But not with Frankie Hammond, the back-up punt returner; they replaced Rainey with Robert Clark, the sophomore receiver who has barely been on the field all season. What does he do on the punt attempt? Muffs it and pretty much kills any chance Florida had to tie it up late in the fourth quarter.
The defensive line is still jumping offsides. WATCH THE FUCKING BALL.
Kyle Christy was booming punts (aside from that one he shanked). He has spent the previous six games on the bench. Our best punter… on the bench. What. The. Hell.
The flea-flicker was a great call by Charlie Weis, and Jeff Driskel has to make that throw. No excuse there. You’re a big-time recruit and the QB for the University of Florida. You have to make that throw.
The call two plays later — I think it was 4th and 1 — was downright awful. They put Driskel in the shotgun and ran some kind of an option play. Stuffed.
Have you not heard of the QB sneak?
Jordan Reed is one of the most frustrating players I can think of.
The receivers can’t get open.
The backs can’t get out in space.
The QBs are getting pressured.
And UF doesn’t have a guy that can catch a punt.
John Brantley being out has nothing to do with any of that shit.
Get. Better.
